Claire Cloutier Try the Tri

Want to try a Triathlon? Swim 1/4 mile, Bike 9.5 miles, Run 2 miles

Some thoughts about Try the Tri from a recent participant:

I have to say special thanks to the members of TriFury. I was able to join you for five races this season and I can honestly say each time was an awesome experience. I like so many fall into the category of a runner, turned cyclist, who wanted to experience triathlon but dreaded swimming. As much time as I had spent in a pool, my first open water swim was filled with panic and a list of techniques I needed to refine. Still, I was encouraged to return, matter of fact I can’t think of a single encounter with any member when I was either racing or volunteering that was not positive and full of encouragement.

Someone once asked why I would travel so far, there must be a similar group closer to home. Simply put, No there is not, what you have is unique. I hope you realize how empowering and special this weekly event and support group is to athletes’ out there. To work on putting the three disciplines together, experience what transition is like and to do it in a fun, competitive atmosphere is great. I was always amazed that every week when asked “who is here doing this for the first time” the number of hands that would go up, every week, without fail. For as much as TriFury is known for having members that are participating in events from sprints to Ironman, you are cultivating and inspiring people who watch and think “ I wonder if I could.”

When I run my first sprint this fall, I will have my TriFury transition mat with me, hoping there will be some good mojo for when I get in from the swim. I’ll be looking forward to when the 2017 season starts, until then I hope to see you out on the course.
